Africa’s biggest donor-The Dangote
Foundation-has donated N100million to support the Internally Displaced
Persons(IDPs) affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East of
Nigeria.
The Foundation in a statement said the
pledge was announced at an Advocacy and Fund Raising gathering organized
by the Daily Trust Newspaper in Abuja.
The statement quoted the Chief Executive
Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssouffou to have
described the donation as part of the gesture of the founder of the
Dangote Group-Aliko Dangote-whom she said has been passionate about the
plight of the IDPs.
While extolling the Daily Trust
Newspaper for the effort, she said the Dangote Foundation has been
involved in similar donations in the recent past.
Recently, she said, the Foundation was involved in providing support for about five thousand families in the affected region.
The Foundation also provided relief material for victims of the 2011 post election crisis in Kaduna State.
Announcing the donations, Mr. Isiaq
Ajibola, a director of the Daily Trust said N230million was raised at
the event and extolled Dangote Foundation for what he described as a
‘friend indeed.’
He said the newspaper will ensure that
the money gets to the beneficiaries as a team of trustees will be set up
to manage disbursement.
As part of its philanthropic efforts, the Foundation, of recent, has donated several billions across Africa and Asia.
