Israel strikes Hamas bases in Gaza


Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Israeli airstrikes hit a series of targets in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip overnight, officials said, hours after a rocket from the Palestinian enclave landed in the Jewish state.
Strikes were recorded in at least three locations in Gaza, Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses said, with Hamas bases struck near the southern city of Rafah and Gaza City, as well as open land southeast of Gaza City.

LONDON (AP) — Six people, including three children, were injured Sunday after a car ran into a large crowd gathered to celebrate the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the northern English city of Newcastle. Police said there was no information suggesting the incident was terror-related.

The Arsenal superstar has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this season with the Chile international yet to pen a new deal.

London Mosque Attack

AT least one person is dead and ten are injured after a van rammed into pedestrians in a suspected anti-Muslim terror attack outside a mosque in north London.
Police confirmed a man was pronounced dead at the scene and counter-terrorism forces are investigating. Eight injured people were taken to three separate hospitals and two were treated at the scene for minor injuries after the van mowed down people on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park.

Breaking News: London tower block fire: Flames engulf Grenfell Tower

  • A huge fire has engulfed a tower block in West London.
  • The fire broke out shortly before 1am on Wednesday at Grenfell Tower in Latimer Road near Notting Hill.
  • The tower is at least 24 storeys high and contains 120 apartments.
  • 200 firefighters have been tackling the blaze with 40 engines.

This is also the first time since Puma took over as kit manufacturer that we will have blue as our primary away having gone yellow, gold, yellow in the first three years of the deal.

Arsenal have announced left-back Sead Kolasinac will join them this summer from German club Schalke.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international, 23, will join on a free transfer and become an Arsenal player on 1 July when the transfer window opens.
"Subject to the completion of all regulatory processes, the defender will start pre-season training in July," said an Arsenal statement.

IVORY Coast international midfielder Cheick Tiote has died aged 30 while training with his Chinese club Beijing Enterprises, his spokesman announced in a statement.
UK media reports said Tiote collapsed on the Enterprise training pitch and later died in hospital. A heart attack is the suspected cause of death, UK reports said.
Tiote - who was part of the Ivory Coast squad that delivered the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations after a 23-year drought, although he was injured for the final - had only moved to China in February after ending a seven-year stay with English outfit Newcastle United.

London terror attack: Police fired 'unprecedented' number of rounds

Armed officers responding to the London Bridge terror attack fired an "unprecedented" number of rounds at the three attackers because they were wearing what appeared to be suicide belts, police said. Eight officers fired 50 shots at three attackers to ensure they were neutralized, said Mark Rowley, assistant commissioner for specialist operations in the Metropolitan Police Service. Rowley is Britain's most senior counterterrorism office.

Turin bomb scare sparks stampede, leaving 1,500 injured


Turin (Italy) (AFP) - More than 1,500 people were injured, three seriously, after a bomb scare triggered a stampede among Juventus fans watching the Champions League final in Turin, local authorities said Sunday.
In an update on Saturday's dramatic events in a square packed with supporters watching the Cardiff match on a giant screen, the local prefecture said 1,527 had been treated for mainly minor injuries.

A company owned by Microsoft's cofounder just unveiled the world's biggest plane

The 227,000kg huge aircraft with wingspan longer than a National Football League field made its debut appearance out of its hangar on 31 May. It will now undergo fuel and other ground testing procedures.
The aeroplane is an ambitious project of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who wanted to build a carrier capable of "delivering payloads to multiple orbits and inclinations in a single mission".

Senate panel okays fuel price increase, others

A Fresh increase in the pump price of petrol is among the contents of a bill that has been approved by the Senate Committee on Works. It was presented yesterday for enactment by the upper chamber.
The proposed law captioned “The National Road Fund Establishment Bill”, which is part of the 11 economic reform bills initiated by the Senate, has already been endorsed by the House of Representatives.
The import of the proposed fuel levy charge is that end-users, including motorists, will pay N5 tax on every litre of fuel bought at any fuel station. This will worsen the hardship most Nigerians currently face.

The news extends Wenger’s stay at Arsenal through 2019, and if he stays until the end of his latest contract, Wenger will certainly manage the most games in Premier League history.
