Obasanjo Suffering From Intellectual Inferiority

The former president in his three-volume autobiography, My Watch, had also said that Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has better expertise in wine matters than in political analysis.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo who took exception at Obasanjo’s remarks said it is a shame that the former president could describe such an international figure that has done Nigeria proud in such a derogatory term.
Adebanjo, who said he aligned himself with the statement made by a former governor of Ogun state, Olusegun Osoba that nobody is good in Obasanjo’s eyes said it is on record that Obasnjo has never praised any leader who ruled before or after him.

“As for Obasanjo, Nigeria began when he became president. He does not believe anybody did anything better before or after. Have you heard Obasanjo praising any leader before independence till this present day?  Is there any leader who became president before and after him that he has not condemned? What kind of a character is that?”
“Nobody is perfect. When people talk about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln  in America today, it is not as if they don’t have their defects but the Americans choose to highlight their positive sides. That is not Obasanjo. He said negative things about Wole Soyinka who did us proud in the literary world”.
“Nobody said Soyinka is perfect.  But the only thing Obasanjo can say about him is that he is a better connoisseur of wine. Has he got half of the intelligence of Soyinka? It is clear he is suffering from intellectual inferiority”.
Shedding light on  Awolowo’s emergence as Yoruba leader, Adebanjo said what makes Awolowo’s election as Yoruba leader significant was due to the fact that he was elected while he was not holding any public office unlike most leaders today who lay claim to leadership positions because they are elected into one public office or another.
“What is significant in Awolowo’s election is that he was not in government when he was elected as is being paraded now by some people today that because people won election, therefore they automatically become the leader of the Yoruba . There was no election and he was not in government” he said.
