Premier League: 'Plan B' Giroud offers Arsenal alternative route to League success

In the aftermath of Arsenal’s goalless draw at home with Middlesbrough last week; Arsene Wenger defaulted to what has increasingly become the tune of the second decade in charge of the north London club. “We tried to play and we didn’t win the game. We’ve seen that so many times now,” said Wenger, with the exasperated air of a man who’s seen it all before. Arsenal had 73% but struggled to break down a well-organised Middlesbrough side that played with three in central midfield, and camped in their own half, thereby denying Arsenal the space to probe intelligently as they like to do. Aitor Karanka’s side were indeed excellent at the Emirates but they merely followed the tried and trusted formula of ceding possession to Arsenal in less dangerous areas of the pitch while they wait patiently for them to run out of ideas in the final third as the spaces get tighter and passing lanes are cordoned off. Burnley followed the same template in their meeting earlier this month and were incredibly unlucky to find themselves at the receiving end of a late, narrow defeat.

The Coronation Ceremonies of an Oba of Benin

Image result for the name of the new oba of beninThe coronation ceremonies of an Oba of Benin usually last about 10 days. They begin from Egua-Edaiken, the traditional residence of the heir-apparent to the Benin Throne. On a day fixed by the Edaiken, he is escorted by his Uselu people on his journey back to Benin City. On the way he stops at an historical palm tree named "Udin ama-mieson aimiuwa" (translated to mean "work before pleasure") which the Edaiken "climbs" symbolically. This little ceremony dates its origin to the time of Oba Ewuare the Great whose life as heir apparent to the throne was characterised by long suffering which included periods when he personally had to climb palm trees on this spot to cut the fruits for a living. This act of suffering by the father of the first Edaiken has ever since been re-enacted in a symbolic way by every Edaiken. From the palm tree the Edaiken continues his journey to Benin City; but at the first moat called (lya-akpan) in the vicinity of where the firm of Mid-Motors (Nigeria) Limited now stands, the Uselu chief in the procession take leave of the Edaiken and return to Uselu while the Edaiken is thereafter escorted into the City by Oredo Chiefs.

The Oba of Benin

Image result for benin kingdomThe Oba of Benin, or Omo N'Oba, Emini mini mini is the traditional ruler of the Edo people and head of the historic Eweka dynasty of the Great Benin Empire - a West African empire centered on Benin City, in modern-day Nigeria. The ancient Benin homeland (not to be confused with the modern-day and unrelated Republic of Benin, which was then known as Dahomey) has been and continues to be mostly populated by the Edo (also known as the Bini or Benin ethnic group).

The title of Oba was created by Oba Eweka I, Benin Empire's first 'Oba', who is said to have ascended to power at some time between 1180 and 1300. The Oba of Benin was the Head of State (Emperor) of the Benin Empire until the Empire's annexation by the British, in 1897.
