Postponment call: APC postpones doomsday – Edo PDP

THE Edo PDP has condemned the alleged plan by the APC-led Federal Government to postpone the September 10 governorship election, describing it as “ a despicable connivance” with the security agencies. In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, the PDP said the action by the APC was borne out of fear of imminent defeat at the poll, pointing out that, unfortunately for it, the APC was only postponing the doomsday.

“The security agencies, in their report, were talking about planned attacks on densely populated areas during the sallah celebrations on September 12 and 13 whereas Edo election is on September 10. APC, Governor Oshiomhole and his proxy, Godwin Obaseki, knew and still know that Edo people are ready to vote them out and they have simply devised a strategy to prolong the process so that, in their calculation,
PDP will be financially stressed and unable to sustain its electioneering, ‘’ it said.Meanwhile, the party, yesterday, in its preparedness for Saturday’s governorship election, held a million man march through major streets in Benin-City. The streets included the commercial Akpakpava street, TV road, and Kings Square. The rally which almost paralyzed traffic and other commercial activities had supporters of the PDP, leaders and members of the Street-to-Street and Door-to-door campaign group of the PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Artisans, students, market women and traders from the busy Agbado market along Akpakpava road, commuters and motorists joined the train as they received flyers of the PDP including one showing a ballot paper and how they should vote in the election. Party supporters started gathering from 7am at the Ikpoba slope campaign office of Pastor Ize-Iyamu and the walk kicked off at 8.00am, traversing New Lagos, Dawson, Igbesanwan, Bamawo street junctions along Akpakpava to TV, Siluko, Oba market and terminated at Kings Square location of the State House of Assembly. Speaking to the party supporters at the Kings Square at the end of the walk at about 2.00pm, former speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Evea, commended the people for their resilience assuring them that their efforts will not be in vain.
