Ahead of today’s lunch-time crunch-tie, Old Trafford is ticking and heaving as the fans of Manchester United and Manchester City expect a dramatic Saturday from their coaches.
This a huge game for the managers, as much as it is for the players.
This is the first meeting between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho since the 2013 Super Cup between Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Pep came out on top in that one, with the German champs winning on penalties after the game ended 2-2. But the rivalry between these two was forged in Spain when they were in charge of Real Madrid and Barcelona and it is that tension and excitement everyone is hoping to see recreated in the Premier League.
There are slight concerns over Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini but they should be fit to start. It looks like Matteo Darmian could replace Antonio Valencia with the latter returning very late from international duty.
Sergio Aguero is suspended which means Kelechi Iheanacho will come in. Claudio Bravo should make his debut.
If you memorise one stat, memorise this: Manchester United had a 100% record after international breaks last season, the only Premier League team to win all four matches.
Last time they met, Manchester United prevailed 1-0 at the Etihad with Marcus Rashford scoring the winner.
One of these men won’t be smiling today. Who will it be?
