Emir calls for handover of public schools to top traditional rulers

Image result for Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, emir of dauraEMIR of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar has called on the state government to hand over public schools to traditional rulers for effective monitoring, discipline and performance of students. Umar, who spoke yesterday while leading traditional title holders from Daura to Government House, expressed worry over the falling standard of education, insisting that all hands must be on deck to revive the sector. The monarch said if public schools were allowed under the control of traditional rulers, enrolment of students would increase and discipline would be restored among teachers and students.
He said his emirate had directed traditional title holders to commence monitoring of schools, especially performance of teachers and enrolment of students. Umar commended the state government for introducing measures to revive education in the state and appealed to wealthy individuals to complement effort of the government through donation of teaching materials. Responding, Governor Aminu Bello Masari appealed to people of the state to guard against vandalisation of government properties. Masari said traditional rulers had a vital role to play towards reviving the education sector through supervision of schools. He explained that his administration had embarked on rehabilitation of schools and provision of teaching materials.
