Rise in Nigerian sex slavery in Italy fuelled by violence and "juju" magic
Around 12,000 Nigerian women who reached Italy by sea over the past two years
Italy, Sept 29 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - When Nigerian teenager Beauty arrived in Sicily after crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa last year, she had only hours to phone the man who trafficked her - or risk lethal repercussions for family members back home.
Before her journey through Niger to Libya, a spiritual priest practicing a form of black magic known in Nigeria as "juju" had forced her to swear an oath of obedience to her trafficker.
The threat of a "curse" if she broke her oath and the possibility of violence by her traffickers at home in Benin City, a southern Nigerian hub for human trafficking, were enough to trap her into sex slavery.
Iraqi grandmother 'beheaded and cooked' Isis soldiers heads to avenge her family's murder
A gun-toting Iraqi housewife has boasted of beheading Islamic State (Isis) militants before boiling their heads in cooking pots.
Grandmother Wahida Mohamed Al-Jumaily says her brutal treatment of the extremists is to avenge the deaths of her two husbands, three brothers and her father who were killed by Isis.
The 39-year-old, who carries a Beretta 9-mm pistol in a holster under her arm, says that her actions have led to personal threats from IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. So respected in battle after 12 years of skirmishes with IS, and their predecessors, she now commands 70 soldiers in Shirqat, northern Iraq, it is claimed.
Shirqat, around 50 miles (80km) south of Mosul in Salahuddin province, has recently been liberated from the terrorists after took over the town in 2014. Her battles with the extremists have left her with shrapnel in her head and legs and broken ribs, she says.
9-Year-Old Boy Graduates High School and Starts College, Wants to Become Astrophysicist: 'I Want to Prove That God Does Exist'
At 9 years old, William Maillis is like a lot of other boys his age, enjoying video games, knock-knock jokes, sports and hanging out with friends. But William is no ordinary kid when it comes to academics.
In May, he graduated from high school and is now a college student already working on his own theories of how the universe was created. Most other 9-year-olds are in fourth grade. William, who lives in Penn Township, Pennsylvania, is among the youngest people ever to attend college.
He's currently taking a full slate of classes at Community College of Allegheny County as a way to ease into life as a college student and plans to enroll next fall at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, according to his father, Peter Maillis, a Greek Orthodox priest. "It doesn't bother me" being the youngest student in class by far, William tells PEOPLE. "I'm used to it by now." William, who wants to study the physics and chemistry of space, earn a doctorate degree and work as an astrophysicist, is at ease tossing around concepts like "displacement of space-time" "singularity" and "pure gravity" as he patiently attempts to explain why black holes aren't "super massive" as theorized by such other brilliant minds as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.
Bottom line, according to William: "I want to prove to everybody that God does exist," he says, by showing that only an outside force could be capable of forming the cosmos.Maillis said he and his wife, Nancy, who also are parents to a daughter, 29, and son, 26, – "[William] was our 17-year-surprise," Maillis says with a laugh – realized their young son was advanced when he started accurately identifying numbers at 6 months old and speaking in complete sentences at just 7 months old, he said.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to completely rule out accepting a potential offer to take charge of England at the end of the season.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to completely rule out accepting a potential offer to take charge of England at the end of the season.
Wenger has been linked with the England job following the Football Association’s decision to part company with Sam Allardyce on Tuesday.
Quizzed on possible England interest after Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League win over Basel, Wenger stopped short of confirming he would snub an FA approach.
Allardyce’s self-inflicted exit after his controversial comments to undercover reporters has left the FA searching for a new boss and they have appointed England Under-21 coach Gareth Southgate as interim manager to buy them time.
Southgate will pick the team for England’s remaining four matches this year and could be persuaded to remain in charge until the end of the season if there was a chance to hire a top-class boss like Wenger.

Nigerian President removes aide who plagiarized Obama speech
Oil-rich Nigeria has seen its fair share of bad news in recent months. The largest economy in Africa has been hit with a fuel shortage, on top of currency problems and terrorism. "A lot of things that can go wrong, are going wrong at the same time," said London-based Nigerian accountant Feyi Fawehinmi. While economically the country is a "complete mess", Fawehinmi said the corruption situation in Nigeria is getting better under President Buhari, who took office a year ago

Scandal: England manager dramatically resigns after just one game
Sam Allardyce has reportedly resigned as England's soccer manager, the Telegraph reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Telegraph published secret video of Allardyce allegedly using his position as England manager to negotiate a deal worth £400,000 ($518,460) in which he would reportedly give advice to businessmen on how to "get around" FA rules regarding third-party ownership.
The businessmen in the video, however, were actually undercover journalists. Allardyce can be seen in the video saying that third-party ownership is still possible.
"It’s not a problem," he said in the video.
Many have compared "third party ownership" to sports indentured servitude, as third parties — often wealthy businessmen — own monetary shares in different players. The practice has been outlawed by England's Football Association since 2008.

How to protect your ATM card against phishing
As electronic payment culture gradually gains traction in the country, so also is e-payment fraud on the rise.
“That is the reason consumers have more responsibility to safeguard their details from phishing and social engineering attackers”, says Mr Dipo
Fatokun, the Director of Banking and Payments System Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The most common among the e-payment frauds worldwide now is Phishing.
Phishing, according to Wikipedia, an online dictionary, “is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details( and sometimes, indirectly money) often for malicious reasons, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication”
The most common method now by these fraudsters is text message to their unsuspecting victims to update their Bank Verfication Number (BVN).
“When somebody sent a text message to you like this: Dear customer, your ATM card has been disabled because your BVN is not complete, please do not respond”, warns Fatokun.
“It may, however, interest you to know that some people have received such text messages and responded, and then lost millions. Most of the frauds that we have witnessed, currently ongoing, is due to lack of knowledge; due to what I would call gullibility.
“People would not ordinarily put their wallets on the table, even it is N1,000 that is there, because it is valuable to them. But people would put their ATM card on the table because they don’t believe that the card is as valuable as the wallet. The wallet contains N1,000ß and the card contains bank account where you have N50,000 or more. Many people have fallen victim because of lack of knowledge. We have that responsibility as account holders to ensure that we maintain confidentiality. Under no circumstance should we disclose the details of your bank accounts; the details of your ATM card. Do not give details.Your bank already has the details.Your banks can not be asking you to give details,” he added.
