Reunification Monument, Cameroon

Reunification MonunmentDesigned by Gédéon Mpando, the bold spirals of the Reunification Monument are representative of the optimism that was manifest at the dawn of unification in 1972.
The capital city of Yaoundé is where you will find this majestic man made wonder which was completed in 1974. It is a tribute to the reunification of Cameroons’ colonial masters, France and Britain, after twelve years of independence.
Once envisioned as a tourist attraction to rival the likes of the Eiffel Tower, the monument now stands as a shadow of its former self, its glory somewhat diminished by neglect and mismanagement yet its quiet dignity remains, slightly elusive, which perhaps adds to its charm.

Not crowded with tourists, the monument is still well worth the visit to appreciate the architectural achievement as well as the historical significance.
