A professor of psychiatry and 2008
winner of the Nigerian National Order of Merit award, Prof. Oye Gureje,
has said that basic and affordable health care is still largely
unavailable to persons suffering from mental and behavioural disorders,
despite the nation’s vast resources.
Gureje, who is a honourary Research
Fellow at the department of psychiatry, University of Manchester, UK,
made the revelation while delivering the Nigerian National Merit Award
Winners’ lecture at the University of Ibadan on Monday. The lecture was
entitled, ‘Hubris, humility and the humongous lessons of the brain.’
