Turkey's war on the PKK
Turkish military officials say the army has killed 35 Kurdish fighters after they attempted to storm a military base in the southeastern province of Hakkari. The early morning attack on Saturday came just hours after clashes in Hakkari's Cukurca district between Turkish troops and fighters from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the officials said.

Nigeria’s economy will shrink this year—IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Monday, admitted that the Nigerian economy “will probably” shrink in 2016, performing below the IMF forecast for the country. Speaking in Abuja, IMF resident representative in Nigeria, Gene Leon, said energy shortages and delayed budget weigh on output in Africa’s largest economy.
After contracting by 0.4 percent in the first quarter of 2016, Leon said Nigeria will experience some growth in the second half of the year, but he added that it would not be enough to upturn initial shrinkage.

'Africa's biggest Jesus statue' unveiled in Nigeria
Abajah (Nigeria) (AFP) - Nigeria on Friday unveiled a nine-metre tall statue of Jesus Christ carved from white marble, thought to be the biggest of its kind in Africa.Standing barefoot with arms outstretched, the "Jesus de Greatest" statue weighs in at 40 tonnes.
More than 100 priests and hundreds of Catholic worshippers attended the nine-metre (30-foot) statue's official unveiling in the village of Abajah in southeastern Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwut announced on Friday that it has scrapped the Petroleum Support Fund, also known as fuel subsidy.
Speaking to journalists at the Port Harcourt refinery where he had spent Christmas inspecting the facility, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, said the government could no longer pay the subsidy due to the fraud tainting the scheme.

‘Dasuki helped Boko Haram with arms importation’
The former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, has been allegedly named as one of the sponsor for Islamic insurgents, Boko Haram, aiding the group by importing illegal arms into the country.
This revelation was made by the National Task Force on Illegal Importation of Firearms (NATFORCE) on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, where it was also alleged that the arms were delivered to the terrorists.

Dasuki Points Ex-Governors, PDP Chiefs In $2b Deals

BREAKING: Oscar Pistorius released from jail
Olympic and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is to be released on correctional supervision, or house arrest, on Tuesday 20 October.
Pistorius was jailed following the hearing of a case against him for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Once a poster boy for disabled sport, Oscar has been stripped of lucrative endorsement deals by global brands and has withdrawn from all competition.
