How Kogi govt. allegedly mismanaged N30 billion bailout fund

An Abuja-based Civil Society Organisation, Egalitarian Mission for Africa (EMA), has called on the relevant anti-corruption agencies in the country, especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to immediately commence investigations into the alleged mismanagement of the N30 billion bailout fund given to the Kogi State Government.

But the Kogi State Government denounced the allegations, saying it has only gotten N20 billion bailout so far and not from the Federal Government.

The group alleged that monumental fraud and rapacious movement of cash is currently rocking the Kogi State Government.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Sadiq Jobi, EMA said the spate of the depletion of the bailout funds and other statutory funds under the Yahaya Bello’s administration, especially within the last two weeks was mind-boggling and must not be glossed over by any right-thinking anti- corruption organisation.

The conversation on life pension for legislators and former governors continues, many Nigerians have opposed the idea.

The issue of payment of life pension to governors, their deputies, National Assembly and House of Assembly members has been on the front burner of public discourse in recent times.

In an opinion poll conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) nationwide, the respondents said that the ongoing payment of pensions to former governors should be discontinued.

The head of an international criminal network behind thousands of online frauds has been arrested in a joint operation by INTERPOL and the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as ‘Mike’, is believed to be behind scams totalling more than USD 60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide.

In one case, a target was conned into paying out USD 15.4 million.

Clinton regains firm lead on Trump after convention

Hillary Clinton got a support bounce of four to seven percentage points after the Democratic National Convention and now holds a substantial lead over Donald Trump in the White House race, polls released Monday showed.

Clinton’s advantage over the Republican Trump is 46 percent to 39 percent, according to the CBS News poll.

After the Republican convention but prior to the Democratic one, Trump got a two-point bump and the race was tied, CBS said.

Nigeria may have lost an estimated N2.56 trillion ($8 billion) to the lingering price dispute between the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The sum which is more than a third of the 2016 budget of N6.1trillion, represents the estimated cumulative revenue losses from the under-assessment of the fiscal valuation on crude oil between 2006 and 2013, using the current exchange rate of N321 to $1, judging by the Nigerian Transparency International (NEITI) 2013 audit of the petroleum industry.

Breaking News: Militants attack SPDC trunk line in Delta.

WARRI- SUSPECTED militants on Sunday attacked a major crude oil exports trunk line close to Odimodi community in Delta State. It was gathered that the trunk line, Trans Ramos, belongs to the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC. Confirming the incident n Sunday night, on phone to Vanguard, a resident of the community, Endoro New-world said: “The incident occurred at about 1.00 am with the velocity of the blast shaking apartments in the community amidst a huge ball of fire. “At sunrise, a group from the community in company of the SPDC surveillance team was able to locate the site of the blast”.

EFCC raids NAHCO office in Lagos
